In 2011, five special elections were held for the Missouri General Assembly. These elections were called to fill vacancies in the Missouri State Senate, District 9, and the Missouri House of Representatives, Districts 15, 39, 41, and 83.

How vacancies are filled

In the event of a vacancy in the General Assembly, the Governor of Missouri must call for a special election without delay[1]. The election mandate is sent to the county that first established the legislative district[2].
