Title 2, Chapter 15, Part 33 of the Montana Code addresses the creation of the Director of the Natural Resources and Conservation.[3]

Appointments
Per 2-15-111 of the Montana Code, the Director is appointed by the Governor with confirmation of the Senate. The director serves at the pleasure of the Governor and may be removed at any time.[4]
Compensation
In 2010, the Montana Director of Natural Resources and Conservation was paid an estimated $96,967 according to the Council of State Governments.[5]
