Moorestown Referendum on Games of Chance by Non Profits (November 2009)
This referendum sought to change a state statute that prohibits municipalities from allowing these games of chance at fundraisers. Moorsetown differentiated on their ballot, asking both if bingo should be allowed then separately if raffles should be allowed. Council members did this in order to make it more clear to residents what they would be voting on. They see this referendum as a way to get more people involved in their community efforts to raise funds. Since this was passed, groups such as veterans associations, church or educational organizations, senior citizen groups and officially recognized volunteer groups can hold these fund raising events now.
