As of February 1, 433 ballot initiatives have been filed in 24 states. Petition drive deadlines have come and gone in four states - Alaska, Florida, Maine and Mississippi. Additionally, deadlines on initiated state statutes have already passed in Nevada and Ohio. With nine months left until the November 2, 2010 general election the number of filed ballot initiatives is surely to increase. Currently leading the pack with the highest number of ballot initiatives is California, with 83, and Oregon, with 78.
According to Ballotpedia's Tuesday Count for 2010, 64 total ballot measures have been filed in approximately 28 statewide ballots. Kicking off the 2010 election year, two ballot measures have already appeared on the ballot in Oregon. If 2010 is typical for an even-numbered election year, somewhere between 175-225 statewide ballot propositions will ultimately go to voters.
