A Nauvoo-Colusa Community Unit School District Tax Levy proposition was defeated on the April 9, 2013 election ballot in Hancock County, which is in Illinois.

If approved, this measure would have authorized the Nauvoo-Colusa Community Unit School District to increase its maximum property tax levy rate from 2% to 2.55% in order to fund educational purposes. This would increase the maximum revenue from approximately $1,131,056 to $1,442,096.[1]

Text of the question:

Shall the maximum annual tax rate for Educational purposes of Nauvoo-Colusa Community Unit School District No. 325, County of Hancock, State of Illinois, be increased and established at 2.55 percent upon all the taxable property of said School District at the value, as equalized or assessed by the Department of Revenue, instead of 2.00 percent, the present maximum rate otherwise applicable to the next taxes to be extended for said purposes?

Text of the informational statement:

The approximate amount of Educational taxes extendable under the maximum rate now in force in said School District is the sum of $1,131,056.

The approximate amount of Educational taxes extendible under the proposed increased rate is the sum of $1,442,096. The total dollar amount of the most recently approved annual budget of said School District is $3,276,769.

The total dollar amount of the annual budget increased by the amount of additional tax which may be levied if the proposition is approved is $3,587,809.

The percentage of increase in the total dollar amount of the most recently approved annual budget of said School District if such total dollar amount were increased by the amount of additional tax which may be levied if the proposition is approved is 9.5 percent.

The percentage of increase between the maximum rate at which the tax for Educational purposes may be levied if the proposition is approved and the annual rate at which such tax currently is levied is 27.5 percent.[1][2]
