As established by Article VII, Section 4 of the Nebraska Constitution, in the event of a vacancy in the office of commissioner, the State Board of Education fills the office by appointment.
Duties
The Commissioner serves as executive officer of the State Board of Education and as administrative head of the State Department of Education. In these roles the Commissioner oversees education in the state.[1]
