The Nebraska Repeal Same-Sex Marriage Ban Initiative did not make the 2012 ballot in the state of Nebraska as an initiated constitutional amendment. The proposed measure would have repealed the existing ban on same-sex marriage, Article 1, Section 29 of the state constitution.[1]

Constitutional changes
The proposed initiative would repeal Article 1, Section 29 of the Nebraska Constitution. The section reads as follows:

Marriage; Same-Sex Relationships Not Valid or Recognized Only marriage between a man and a woman shall be valid or recognized in Nebraska. The uniting of two persons of the same sex in a civil union, domestic partnership, or other similar same-sex relationship shall not be valid or recognized in Nebraska. |

In order to qualify the proposed constitutional amendment, supporters were required to collect valid signatures from a minimum of 10 percent of registered voters; more than 115,000 signatures. The deadline to submit signatures for the 2012 ballot in Nebraska was July 6, 2012.[2]
