This page details New Hampshire signature requirements. In many states, the signatures of registered voters must be collected to place candidates or initiatives on the ballot. However, for candidates, filing fees are sometimes required or accepted in lieu of signatures.

Federal offices

U.S. Senate

Partisan candidates for U.S. Senate must pay a $100 filing fee, or submit 200 signatures.[1]

Independent candidates for U.S. Senate must pay a $100 filing and submit 1,500 signatures from each district (3,000 Signatures Total).[1]

U.S. House

Partisan candidates for U.S. House must pay a $50 filing fee, or submit 100 signatures.[1]

Independent candidates for U.S. House must pay a $50 filing and submit 1,500 signatures.[1]

The filing period for all candidates to file was from June 5, 2012 to June 15, 2012.[1] The deadline for all candidates wishing to appear on the primary ballot was June 15, 2012.[1]

State offices

Statewide executive offices

Governor

Partisan candidates for Governor must pay a $100 filing fee, or submit 200 signatures.[1]

Independent candidates for Governor must pay a $100 filing and submit 1,500 signatures from each district (3,000 signatures total).[1]

All candidates for Governor must fulfill residency requirements.[2] Candidates must be a registered voter and living in New Hampshire for at least 7 years previously.[2]

Executive Councilor

Partisan candidates for Executive Councilor must pay a $25 filing fee, or submit 50 signatures.[1]

Independent candidates for Executive Councilor must pay a $25 filing fee and submit 750 signatures.[1]

All candidates for Executive Councilor must fulfill residency requirements.[2] Candidates must be a registered voter and currently residing in New Hampshire for at least the last 7 years.[2] Candidates must also live in the executive council district in which the candidate is running.[2]

State legislature

State Senate

Partisan candidates for State Senate must pay a $10 filing fee, or submit 20 signatures.[1]

Independent candidates for State Senate must pay a $10 filing fee and submit 750 signatures.[1]

All candidates for State Senate must fulfill residency requirements.[2] Candidates must be a registered voter and living in New Hampshire for at least 7 years previously. Candidates must also live in the senate district in which the candidate is running.[2]

State House

Partisan candidates for State House must pay a $2 filing fee or submit 5 signatures.[1]

Independent candidates for State House must pay a $2 filing fee and submit 150 signatures.[1]

All candidates for State House must fulfill residency requirements.[2] Candidates must be a registered voter and living in New Hampshire for at least 2 years previously. Candidates must also live in the town or ward in which the candidate is running.[2]
