Federal offices
U.S. Senate
Partisan candidates for U.S. Senate must submit 1,000 signatures. [1]
Independent candidates for U.S. Senate must submit 800 signatures.[2]
U.S. House
Partisan candidates for U.S. House must submit 200 signatures.[1]
Independent candidates for U.S. House must submit 50 signatures.[2]

The deadline for all candidates to submit signatures and file for the primary election was April 2, 2012.[3]
State offices
Statewide executive offices
Governor
Partisan candidates for Governor must submit at least 1,000 signatures, be a resident of New Jersey for at least 7 years previous, and be a U.S. citizen for the past 20 years.[1]
Independent candidates for Governor must submit at least 800 signatures, be a resident of New Jersey for the past 7 years at least, and be a U.S. citizen for the past 20 years.[2]
State legislature
State Senate
Partisan candidates for State Senate must submit at least 100 signatures, be a U.S. citizen, and be a resident of New Jersey for the past 4 years.[1] The guidelines are the same for Independent candidates.[2]
State House
Partisan candidates for State House must submit at least 100 signatures, be a U.S. citizen, and be a resident of New Jersey for the past 2 years.[1] The guidelines are the same for Independent candidates.[2]
