BINGHAMTON, NY-New York state next year is getting rid of old fashioned voting machines and returning with optical scan paper ballots to be in compliance with the Help America Vote Act. This action could according to one newspaper turn off older voters.

The Switch Would be Hard to Comprehend for Older Voters

Despite the workability of the lever voting machine it is going to be history after the 2008 election. While the switch reportedly is to enable the disabled, it is still a change. And change is hard especially for people being used to the old fashioned machines.

"Most voters will be giving up the only voting system they've ever known," said John Sejan, Republican deputy commissioner for the Broome County Board of Elections[1].
