NIAGARA FALLS, New York: Although it has long been speculated by the local media that New York Attorney General would enter the state's gubernatorial race, former-Clinton administration cabinet member Andrew Cuomo has yet to make an official announcement regarding his intentions in seeking the office. Regardless, a gathering of upstate Democratic Party leaders at the Democratic Rural Conference threw their support behind him in a straw poll for governor.

While Cuomo himself did make an appearance at the conference, delivering what some considered a fiery speech at the event's kickoff dinner, he was not present for the actual vote. Former state party Chairwoman June O'Neill, who put his name up for nomination, "rejected criticism of Cuomo's reluctance to announce his candidacy, saying he is putting his duties as attorney general ahead of political concerns."[1]
