Issues

Campaign themes

2014

Denice's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]

Jobs and Economic Development

  • Excerpt: "Repeal the $500 minimum corporate tax. This tax on business is very anti-growth and must be paid whether a business makes a profit or not."
  • Excerpt: "Reform regulations, permitting, licensing, and land use regulations into a one-stop-shop model where it is easy to do business–modeled off of the extremely successful program currently in place at Quonset Point."
  • Excerpt: "Engage in true economic development strategies leveraging universities like the Research Triangle in North Carolina and utilizing tax incentives like currently is being done in New York."

Tax Reform

  • Excerpt: "A full repeal of the motor vehicles tax. The car tax is regressive, hurts the poor and middle class, and is apportioned by an unfair valuation model. This tax should be completely eliminated."
  • Excerpt: "A full repeal of the state income tax on social security benefits and pensions – for both public and private sector retirees. Rhode Island is one of the few states with this tax, it harms those on fixed incomes, and makes the state an unattractive place to retire."

Education

  • Excerpt: "Continue to accelerate the school funding formula to get the aid we need to our students. Proper funding means good technology in schools, thriving school sports programs, and honors classes that help our kids get into good colleges."
  • Excerpt: "Restore cuts to URI, CCRI, and RIC that have led to Rhode Island appropriating its state colleges and universities some of the lowest per pupil appropriations nationally."

Local Reform

  • Excerpt: "West Warwick must continue to move forward and not backwards with its financial situation. Our reform saved taxpayers millions and put the Town on a path towards fiscal health. We must continue to monitor the five year plan and ensure its implementation for West Warwick’s financial future."

2012

Denice's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[2]

  • Excerpt: "Denice has stated, "My campaign is focused on promoting a pro-business climate in the state to create jobs. We need to simplify the tax code and streamline regulations. We must engage in true economic development and not the crony capitalism of the Curt Schilling deal. My financial background will help me to get this done."
