In February 2009 Lorusso was ordered into active service by the U.S. Army. Gregory Ernst was appointed as a temporary replacement.[1] He returned to the legislature in February 2010 after completing his military assignment.[2]
Lorusso serves as Counsel to Johnson, Johnson, Barrios & Yacoubian. He has previously served as Chief of the Legal Assistance Division III Corps, was an Officer in the United States Army Judge Advocate Generals Corps, a military prosecutor, and a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney.
Lorusso is a member of the American Legion, Lake Vista Property Owners Association, Saint Pius X Catholic Church, Saint Pius X Mens Club, Saint Pius X School Board, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. [3]

On October 22, 2011, Lorusso won re-election to District 61 of the Louisiana House of Representatives. He defeated District 81 incumbent John LaBruzzo, Jr. (R) in the October 22 primary. Because Louisiana uses a blanket primary system, a candidate can be declared the overall winner of the seat by garnering 50 percent +1 of the vote in the primary.

In 2007, Lorusso was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives. He defeated Deborah Langhoff.[4]
