North Carolina abortion restrictions to become law

RALEIGH, North Carolina: A two-week long special redistricting session ended yesterday with Republican gains in areas of regulation, redistricting and abortion law.
Republicans protected jobs by canceling a bill that would re-work the state's regulatory process, made redistricting gains that will prove favorable for the next 10 years[1] and overrode five of Governor Perdue's vetoes:[2]
- Regulatory Reform Act of 2011
- Woman's Right to Know Act
- Medicaid and Health Choice Provider Requirement
- Medical Liability Reforms
- ESC/Jobs Reform
Under the Woman's Right to Know Act, doctors will be required to provide state-mandated counseling before a procedure, and require that the patient wait 24 hours before receiving an abortion. Counseling provided by the physician will include information about the likely stage of development of the fetus, the medical risks of having an abortion and abortion alternatives. The law will be in full effect in mid October.[3]
