Eight statewide ballot measures appeared on the April 28, September 5 and November 7, 1972 ballots in North Dakota.

The April 28 special election was the result of a constitutional convention called for in 1970. Voters were given the opportunity to vote on a new constitution and four special propositions. The four propositions were voted on individually and could become part of the constitution only if the proposition was approved and the new constitution adopted by the voters. Two of these measures provided voters with two options to choose between, while the other two were regular votes for or against one measure. Since the new constitution was not approved, the approval or defeat of these measures became moot.[1]
