North Dakota initiative proposes redirecting oil tax revenues for wildlife projects

BISMARK, North Dakota: Already four initiatives are circulating petition forms in the state of North Dakota. However, one more proposal may be joining the list.
This month the Nature Conservancy, Ducks Unlimited and the North Dakota Natural Resources Trust announced their support for redirecting 5% of oil production and extraction tax revenues to a wildlife projects fund.[1]
The proposed wildlife fund would be managed by a nine-member appointed board. State estimates indicate that the fund could collect between $51 million and $84 million annually.[1]
The initiative language has not yet been cleared for petition circulation.
In order to qualify for the 2012 statewide ballot supporters are required to collect and submit a minimum of 26,904 valid signatures by August 8, 2012.
