A Novato Unified School District parcel tax, Measure A ballot proposition was on the June 2, 2009 ballot in Marin County, California, for voters in the Novato Unified School District, where it was approved.
Measure D asked for an increase in the current parcel tax of $96 per parcel for six years.
The Novato Unified School District (NUSD) is one of the 19 public school districts in Marin County. Of these school districts, it has the lowest per pupil spending.
Ballot language
The summary of Measure A on the ballot said:
- "To protect Novato schools from damaging state budget cuts, provide stable local funding that can’t be taken away by the state and preserve
quality education by minimizing further teacher and staff layoffs, keeping school libraries open, limiting class size increases, and maintaining competitive science, math and other programs, shall Novato Unified School District increase the existing school parcel tax by $96 per parcel for 6 years, with a senior exemption, independent oversight and no money for administrator salaries?"
