Obama staffers' voter registrations have been challenged by a Republican staffer in Columbiana County, Ohio. Columbiana County Republican Party Secretary Nancy Cope is questioning the voter registrations of two Obama campaign individuals, she claims they registered to vote at their host family addresses in Columbiana County. She first contacted the Obama-Biden campaign but received no response. She has since sent a letter to the county Board of Elections. [1]
Problems
Cope first became aware of the possibility questionable voter registrations while attending a meeting in Cincinnati where a woman from Democrats for McCain discussed the issue. She then inquired at the Board of Elections as to whether any questionable registrations had been discovered. In a letter to the county Board of Elections dated Oct. 28, she reported that two workers, Peter Grant Jr., formerly of Washington, and Molly Thompson, formerly of North Carolina, recently moved into Ohio to work on the Obama campaign and had registered to vote. Ohio law requires that registered voters be permanent residents and that "Ohio statute specifically states that non-residents who are here for temporary purposes are not entitled to register and/or vote." Her question was how can these campaign workers vote if they do not intend to stay in Ohio after the election. [1]
