Ohio petition drives come to a close, deadline only a day away
June 29, 2010
By Bailey Ludlam
COLUMBUS, Ohio: With only one day left before the petition drive deadline comes to an end, the total number of proposed initiatives has narrowed from ten to only one. Tomorrow marks the last deadline for initiatives to be certified for the 2010 ballot in Ohio. June 30 is the deadline for any proposed initiated constitutional amendments. For a statute, signatures were required to be filed ten days before the start of Ohio 2010 legislative session, which was on January 4. The recommended filing deadline was December 23, 2009.
This past week supporters of the proposed Ohio Health Care Amendment shifted their efforts for the 2011 statewide ballot. Supporters cited an insufficient number of signatures to qualify for this year's ballot.
To qualify initiated constitutional amendments for the November 2010 ballot, supporters are required to collect a minimum of 402,275 valid signatures across at least 44 of 88 counties by June 30.
Pending initiatives are listed below.
| Type | Title | Subject | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| CICA | Livestock Care Initiative | Animal rights | Requires that the Livestock Care Standards Board adopt certain minimum standards |
