Oklahoma House Speaker to fundraise for RNC May 15, 2013

Oklahoma

By Megan Busse

OKLAHOMA CITY,Oklahoma: Oklahoma House Speaker Republican T.W. Shannon will be fundraising for the Republican National Committee, according to reports.[1] Shannon, known as a "rising star" in the Republican party, has what some describe as "a magic political combination of minority heritage, conservative ideas and a silky smooth presence."[2] According to reports, the Republican National Committee plans to spend 2013 talking to Hispanic, black and Asian communities that supported Democrats in 2012 elections.[1]

Shannon was elected in 2006 and was elected House-speaker designate in 2011. He became House speaker following the 2012 elections, when the Republicans maintained their majority in the Oklahoma House.[3]
