The Oklahoma Immigration Question did not make the 2012 ballot in the state of Oklahoma as a legislatively-referred state statute. The measure would have given law enforcement more authority to check the immigration status of motorists. According to the proposal, the measure was introduced to allow police to question people about their immigration status, and if in fact their status is deemed illegal, authorities would be allowed to confiscate property belonging to said illegal immigrants. State Representative George Faught, who introduced the measure, stated that the proposal would not allow racial profiling. The measure's formal title is House Bill 1446.[1]
Path to the ballot
On February 28, 2011, the House Judiciary Committee voted to approve the proposal. The measure will now be placed in front of the Oklahoma House of Representatives for discussion.[1]
