Oklahoma Representative proposes measure similar to SQ 755
OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma: In what could be considered a second try, State Representative Sally Kern has introduced a measure similar to a controversial 2010 ballot proposal that was voted on statewide. The introduced measure proposes to prohibit foreign laws from being enforced in state courtrooms. The measure is similar to State Question 755, which was enacted by voters in the 2010 general election. However, that measure was blocked from taking effect by a U.S. District judge.
Kern says that if sent to the 2012 ballot and enacted by Oklahoma voters, the law should not be subject to litigation. The reason being is that the proposal does not single out a religion, according to Kern. State Question 755 sought to block courts from using the Islamic Sharia Law when handing down rulings.
