If SQ 679 had been approved, it would have amended the Oklahoma Constitution so that the state's Corporation Commissioners and Tax Commissioners could have received compensation increases during their terms of office in a way that would have equalized the compensation of newly-elected or appointed commissioners with the compensation of existing commissioners.
|Oklahoma State Question 679|
The official ballot summary said:
"The Oklahoma Constitution prohibits increases in compensation for constitutional officers during their terms of office. Corporation and Tax Commissioners start their terms at different times, thereby sometimes causing unequal compensation during the respective commissioners' terms. This measure proposes to amend the constitution to allow Oklahoma Corporation Commissioners and members of the Oklahoma Tax Commission to receive an increase in compensation during their terms of office to equalize the current commissioners' compensation to that of a newly elected or appointed commissioner or member."
