BOISE, Idaho: Almost one month into 2011, the Idaho Secretary of State's website has listed only one initiative so far filed for a 2012 ballot. The one initiative, the absentee ballot proposal, would allow Idaho voters to receive an absentee ballot for every state election. The measure was filed by Idaho Vote by Mail, Inc. in June 2009 and was approved for circulation by the Idaho Secretary of State. The deadline to collect the required 51,712 signatures is February 2011.[1]

According to Idaho law, voters must request an absentee ballot for each election. Among the supporters of the measure are the Idaho League of Women Voters. In 2010, the state of Idaho had 20 initiatives filed in hopes of making the ballot. However, no initiatives were successful in their bids.
