The Pacific Grove Sales Tax Increase Measure U appeared on the June 3, 2008 ballot in Monterey County, California, where it was approved. It is a sales tax increase measure. It increases the city sales tax in the City of Pacific Grove by one cent, or 13.8%, which would increase the city sales tax in the city from 7.25% to 8.25%. This will add about $1.3 million a year to the city's coffers.

It is a permanent sales tax increase with no sunset provision. Pacific Grove voters defeated a smaller sales tax increase request in November 2007.

Text of the ballot question:

Pacific Grove Vital City Services Measure: To protect/maintain essential City of Pacific Grove services by funding police officers and firefighters maintaining 9-1-1 police/fire response times, fixing potholes, improving/maintaining city streets, youth programs and parks, increasing code enforcement, expanding crime prevention programs, and preserving other general City services, shall the City sales tax be increased by one cent with published, independent annual financial audits of all expenditures available for public review?
