Murphy is a 2014 Democratic candidate seeking election to the open United States House of Representatives seat in Iowa’s 1st District.[1]
Biography
Murphy worked for Hillcrest Family Services in 1991, was a Quality Assurance Analyst/Document Specialist with Cycare Systems Inc from 1988-1990, Quality Assurance Analyst/Document Specialist with Mercy Health Center from 1975-1988, and was an Instructor at Northeast Iowa Community College.
He is a member of the Birth Defects Advisory Committee, Boy Club Boosters, Community Advisor with the Dubuque Area Labor/Management Council, Mental Health Association Board, and Saint Joseph's Church.[2]

2014
On February 13, 2013, Murphy became the first Democrat to enter the 2014 race for U.S. House in the 1st congressional district of Iowa. Incumbent Rep. Bruce Braley plans to run for U.S. Senate in 2014, which leaves the 1st district seat open.[1]
2012
Murphy ran in the 2012 election for Iowa House of Representatives District 99. Murphy ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on June 5, 2012 and defeated Paul Kern (R) in the general election on November 6, 2012.[3][4]
