Biography
Prior to being named to the NYPSC, Acampora represented Long Island for 12 years in the New York State Assembly. She was the first woman to serve as President of the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators. Before being elected to the legislature, Acampora worked as an assistant to Suffolk County Executive Robert Gaffney and served as a liaison to the Suffolk County Legislature.[1]

Acampora has served as a member of the New York Public Service Commission since 2005. During 2007, she served as interim Chairwoman.[1]

Acampora was a member of the New York State Assembly from 1992 to 2005. She represented the 1st District, located on Long Island.[2]

Acampora was re-appointed to the New York Public Service Commission by Gov. David Paterson in February 2009. Common Cause criticized the re-appointment stating, "The govenror is not willing to think creatively about ways that the PSC can positively help New York's families during this economically difficult times."[3]
