was a 2012 Democratic
candidate for District 79
of the California State Assembly
Washington earned her B.A. in Criminal Justice from Old Dominion Univeristy in 1978. She went on to receive her M.A. in Humanities from Old Dominion in 1989. Washington then received a PhD in Sociology from the State University of New York and Binghamton in 1996. Her professional career includes a variety of teaching positions.
On her 2012 campaign site, Washington outlines her campaign themes:
- "For many, the plight of working people and the struggles that many Americans face – the need for social justice – are distant concepts that do not pertain to them. They are stories on the news about something that happens to other people – not to them or to people they know. However, those hardships were Pat Washington’s reality during the formative years of her life. Pat knows what it is to struggle, to need help, to need an advocate. She also knows what it is like to benefit from an outstretched hand. It is because of her life experiences and her own struggles that Pat Washington has become committed to being an advocate — a champion for others — whenever and wherever she can."
