Jefferson is an attorney. He has had his own law office since May 2001. Additionally, he currently serves as Assistant District Defender for the 2nd Judicial, is Village Attorney for Simsboro, President of the Bienville Parish Police Jury and General Counsel for NABCO.
Jefferson earned his JD from the Ohio State University College of Law in 1994, and BA in English from Dillard University in 1990.[1]

On October 22, 2011, Jefferson won election to District 61 of the Louisiana House of Representatives. He defeated incumbent Rory Bedford (D) in the primary election on October 22, 2011. Because Louisiana uses a blanket primary system, a candidate can be declared the overall winner of the seat by garnering 50 percent +1 of the vote in the primary.[2]
