Gallagher ran for Delaware Insurance Commissioner in 2012. He ran against incumbent Karen Weldin Stewart, Dennis Spivack and Mitch Crane in the Democratic primary on September 11, 2012. Gallagher was defeated by incumbent Karen Weldin Stewart in the Democratic primary on September 11, 2012.[3] Benjamin Mobley ran unopposed in the Republican primary and David R. Eisenhour ran unopposed in the Libertarian primary. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.[4]
