Lund states his positions on these issues on his website:

  • Taxes & Spending - "I support Governor Christie's efforts to reign in government borrowing and spending, to create a more business-friendly environment that can spur economic growth and job creation."
  • Welfare - "I believe in offering a hand up, not a handout, which is why I am against the expansion of the welfare state. My progressive opponent measures the success of the programs he promotes by the number of people on the receiving end of government handouts. I prefer initiatives and reforms that liberate people and families from such dependence and gives them an incentive and the tools to become self-reliant and upwardly mobile."
  • Education Reform - "I support education reform to produce better results at a lower cost, to create a more competitive marketplace with more school choices for parents and a system that rewards the best teachers for their achievements."
  • Opportunity Scholarship Act - "I support legislation such as the Opportunity Scholarship Act, which will establish programs to provide children from low-income households the opportunity to leave failing school districts and have greater access to public or private schools of their choice."
  • Life - "I support any legislation that fosters a belief in the sanctity of, and makes in-roads into the protection of life in all its stages, from womb to tomb."

Campaign themes

Video: Who is Paul Lund?

Lund states his answers to these three questions as his campaign issues:

1. Why are you running for office?

"I believe that seeds were planted for this particular run for office after attending a “State Budget Forum” hosted by the current 19th District legislators in May 2010. It was held shortly after Governor Christie’s proposed 2011 state budget and was intended to field questions from constituents. For over two hours I witnessed a long line of organizations getting in line to ask for their funding to be restored – not one of these special interest groups represented me, a middle-income taxpayer."

2. What qualifies you for this position?

"My conviction that this ship of state New Jersey is close to capsizing and can still be righted with committed public servants and an engaged electorate."

3. If challenging an incumbent, why would you do a better job?

"I am a conservative Republican that believes in the tradition of offering a hand up, not a handout. My progressive opponent measures the success of the programs he promotes by the number of people on the receiving end of government handouts. I would like to be involved in initiatives and reforms that liberate people and families from such dependence to give them a taste of true freedom. I am a Christian, a husband, a teacher and a Republican. When it comes to matters of conscience, I don’t separate my faith from my political views – the one informs the other. I want to be a source of unvarnished, unpoliticized truth."

Lund has lived his entire life in New Jersey. He is married to Lillian. He and his wife are members of Faith Fellowship Ministries in Sayreville, New Jersey.
