Biography
For 24 years Kilmartin was a member of the Pawtucket Police Department, starting as an officer on patrol, working his way up to becoming the officer in charge of prosecutions and retiring as a Captain.[1]

Political career
Rhode Island Attorney General (2010-present)
On February 24, 2010, he announced his candidacy for the statewide office of attorney general, the seat being vacated by Patrick Lynch, who was barred by state term-limit laws from running for a third consecutive term in office. [2] He won the 2010 election and assumed office in January 2011.[1]

Kilmartin served in the Rhode Island House of Representatives from 1990 to 2010.
