Wirth served in the New Mexico State House of Representatives from 2005 to 2009. He joined the New Mexico State Senate in 2009. He has served in that position since, representing the 25th district.
Wirth was a Law Clerk for The Honorable Oliver Seth of the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals from 1990 to 1992. He has worked as a lawyer for the following firms: Catron, Catron and Sawtell from 1992 to 1994, Panagakos and Wirth, Professional Corporation, from 1995 to 2000, The Wirth Law Firm from 2000 to 2003, and Sawtell Wirth and Biedscheid, Professional Corporation, from 2004 to the present.
Wirth earned his BA in Economics/Spanish from Stanford University in 1984. He went on to receive his JD from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1990.
