Hermanson refused to take Project Vote Smart's 2008 Political Courage Test. The test, which is administered to all candidates for presidential, congressional, gubernatorial, and state legislative offices, asks one central question - "Are you willing to tell citizens your positions on the issues you will most likely face on their behalf?"[2]

Hermanson won election in the 2012 election for Kansas House of Representatives District 98. He was unopposed in the August 7 Republican primary and defeated incumbent Geraldine Flaharty (D) in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[4][5][6]

DUI conviction

On May 26, 2010, Hermanson was found guilty of DUI resulting from a November 2009 accident in Wichita. He pleaded no contest. On July 8, he was sentenced to one-year probation from a six-month jail term for driving under the influence of prescription drugs. Additionally, was ordered to pay a $500 fine and court costs.[13]
