Goldfeder is a graduate of Brooklyn College. He has been involved in city government for a number of years, working as a Legislative Aide for the New York City Council and working in the Mayor's Community Affairs Unit. Golfeder and his wife have two children.[3][4]

Goldfeder defeated Jane Deacy (R) in the September 13, 2011 special election. Goldfeder also ran on the Independence and Working Family Party tickets.[8]
