A Polk County Business Tax Exemption measure was on the November 2, 2010 ballot in Polk County.

This measure was defeated

  • YES 75,054 (49.8%)
  • NO 75,566 (50.2%)Defeatedd[1]

This measure sought to allow property tax exemptions to new or expanding businesses in the county. County officials saw this as a need to continue county growth, due to other counties having this exemption, without it the county was not competitive.[2] This was also on the ballot in 2008, but it was defeated by residents. The unemployment rate was around 13 percent so city officials hope this time around people would approve the measure so new jobs could have had the opportunity to be created. The previous defeat was due to the lack of information, county officials guessed, so they were working hard to promote this measure and ensure voters knew the consequences of their votes.[3]
