This measure sought to levy $2.65 per $1,000 of assessed property value for a period of four years on property within the school district area in order to help pay for maintenance and operational costs of the school district. The school district was expected to have to pay around $50,000 for the special election but the current levy was set to expire this year so school officials had noted the cost in the budget already. The levy would renew and increase the current levy, which school officials stated was vital to the running of the school and should be easy to pass.
Those in favor of the measure noted that the increase is small and the district needs the additional funds. But those against it said that any increase of taxes was not good for residents in these economic times. Proponents noted that the district has decreased its budget consistently over the past several years and that there is only so much which can be cut before vital programs are cut as well.
