A Port Townsend School District Operations Levy Renewal measure was on the February 8, 2011 ballot in the Port Townsend school district area, which is in Jefferson County.

This measure was approved

  • YES 4,412 (67.87%)Approveda
  • NO 2,089 (32.13%)[1]

This measure sought to renew the current operations and maintenance levy which was set at a rate of $1.17 per $1,000 of assessed property value for a further four years in order to maintain school services.[2] School officials noted that without this renewal school programs would be cut, the state legislature has taken more money away from schools so this renewal is important to maintain current school services. It had not been discussed what would be cut or would happen if this had not approved.[3] The current school levy will expire at the end of 2011, so if this had not been approved the tax would just be continued starting in 2012. School officials expected around $3 million to be generated from this levy a year to go towards school needs.[4]
