Elections
2012
Robayna ran in the 2012 election for Florida House of Representatives District 105. Robayna ran as an Independent candidate and was defeated by incumbent Carlos Trujillo (R) in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[1]
Write-in candidate status
When Robayna filed to run as a write-in candidate in Florida's House District 105, he cost more than 42,000 people the right to vote in Broward, Collier and Miami-Dade counties.[2] Florida has a closed primary system, in which only voters with the same party affiliation as the candidates get to vote.[2] In races where there are no candidates from other parties in the general election, however, all voters are allowed to participate because the primary’s outcome will determine the ultimate winner.[2]However, in the case that a write-in files to run in the general election, the primary remains closed.[2]
