Raymond Farmer is the current South Carolina Director of Insurance. Farmer was selected as the Director of Insurance on November 13, 2012.[1][2] His appointment was confirmed by the South Carolina State Senate on February 15, 2013.[3]

Biography

Farmer is a native of Atlanta, Georgia.[4] Farmer earned a degree in insurance from the University of Southern Mississippi and a law degree from Atlanta's John Marshall Law School.[4]

Farmer served as the Deputy Insurance Commissioner of the Enforcement Division for the Georgia Department of Insurance and more recently as Vice President for the American Insurance Association. As a part of his service, Farmer has served for more than 30 years on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Arson Control Program, an organization aiding firefighters and prosecutors combating arson. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and a member of the Tort and Insurance Practice section as well as the Workers' Compensation section.

Farmer was selected as the South Carolina Director of Insurance by Gov. Nikki Haley on November 13, 2012. He was later confirmed by the South Carolina Senate.[5]

Governor Nikki Haley (R) appointed Farmer to the position of State Director of Insurance on November 13, 2012. Farmer's appointment was confirmed by the State Senate the following February.[6][7]

Personal

Farmer and his wife, Gayle, have two children and five grandchildren.[8]
