CORNELIUS, Oregon: The ballots are out and local voters in Cornelius, Oregon will soon be casting their vote to recall or retain Mayor Neal Knight, City Councilor Mari Gottwald and City Councilor Jamie Minshall.[1]

Knight, Minshall and Gottwald, also called "Team 3," were first elected to their positions in November 2010 and sworn-in in early January 2011. They represent three of the five members of the Cornelius city council.[2]

In order to force a special recall election supporters were required to collect a minimum of 391 signatures per recall target.[3] The effort was initiated by former Cornelius city councilor Brad Coffey.

A few of the reasons provided by supporters of the recall include:

  • They voted to fire city manager Dave Waffle.[4]
  • They support eliminating the city's General Service Fee.[4]
  • They "have not considered public input during public hearings."[4]

Clatsop County voters cast ballots today

Clipboard128.png

CLATSOP COUNTY, Oregon: Voters in Clatsop County are heading to the polls today to voice their opinion on one ballot measure:

  • The Clatsop County Commissioners recall targets: Ann Samuelson and Jeff Hazen. According to county officials ballots were sent out October 11th. Commissioner Patricia Roberts is also the target of the recall effort, however, supporters have not yet submitted signatures to recall the commissioner.

The recall efforts developed after the three commissioners voted in favor of a liquefied natural gas development.[7] However, because the recall election is not countywide, the county has a total of 5 drop-off sites: Clatsop County Clerk's Office, 24-hour Drive-up Drop Box on Exchange Street, Cannon Beach City Hall, Seaside City Hall and Warrenton City Hall.[8]

Hazen serves as the county chair and represents District 1, Samuelson reprepsents District 5 and Roberts represents District 2.[9]
