Impact of redistricting

See also: Redistricting in Rhode Island

The Democratic-dominated Legislature passed new maps on February 1, 2012, with Gov. Lincoln Chafee (I) signing them on the 8th. The state house districts were legally challenged by the Rhode Island Republican Party on behalf of Rhode Island Tea Party lobbyist Michael Puyana[4] on the grounds of compactness and incumbent favoring, though this suit did not advanced past the complaint stage. The Republicans argue that districts 47 and 48 were arranged unfairly to protect incumbent Cale Keable (D) from a challenge by previous Republican challenger Donald Fox.[5][6]
