PURPOSE: What will the Transportation Bonds do?
Approval and issuance of these bonds will provide funds to the Department of Transportation to match available federal funds and provide direct funding for improvements to the State's highways, roads and bridges; to replace or repair transportation maintenance facilities and to purchase and/or rehabilitate buses for the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority's fleet.
HOW MUCH MONEY WILL BE BORROWED? $63,500,000
EXPLANATION: How will the money be spent?
(a) $60,000,000 will be used to match federal highways funds or to provide direct funding to fund improvements to the State's highways, roads and bridges;
(b) $1,800,000 will be used to repair or renovate existing maintenance facilities or to construct new maintenance facilities; and
(c) $1,700,000 will be used to purchase buses or for the rehabilitation of existing buses for the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority's fleet.
