Richard T. Moore (b. August 7, 1943) is a Democratic member of the Massachusetts State Senate, representing the Worcester and Norfolk District since 1996.

Biography

Work experience

Prior to his service in the Senate, Moore was a three-term Hopedale selectman (1970-1978), nine term state representative (1977-1994), and a former Associate Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the Clinton Administration (1994-1996).

Moore has also worked an adjunct assistant professor at Bridgewater State College, assistant to the president of Bentley College (1969-1976), and associate dean of students at Assumption College (1967-1969).

Professional affiliations

Moore has served as President of the National Conference of State Legislatures, a post he was elected to by over 7,000 of the nation's state legislators. He also served as co-chair of the NCSL’s Health Information Technology Champions (HITCh) Project and is an active member of the National Governor’s Association State e-Health Initiative – both aimed at encouraging the broader use of health information technology across the nation. Moore is the Senate Representative and Chairman of the Blackstone River and Canal Commission and is a member of the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor Commission.[1]

Community involvement

Besides his work with state government organizations, Moore has been involved in several New England community groups. He was a member of The Barton Center for Diabetes Education Board of Trustees. The Barton Center, based in North Oxford, is one of the largest, independent camping and educational programs in the country dedicated to children who live with diabetes and the people who care for them. He also served as a Member of the Harrington Hospital Healthcare System, which provides comprehensive healthcare to the residents and communities of south central Massachusetts and northeastern Connecticut, is a member of the the National Advisory Committee for the State Health Reform Project of the Brookings Institution’s Engelberg Center for Health Care Reform, as well as the Seven Hills Foundation Board of Trustees. Seven Hills provides a continuum of support and services to 28,000 individuals with disabilities and life challenges through eleven affiliates throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island.[1]

Additionally, Moore served five years on the Quinsigamond Community College Board of Trustees (1970-76), including a term as board chairman, and for nearly twelve years as a member of the Board of Trustees of Nichols College, Dudley, Massachusetts.[1]

Education

Moore holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Clark University (Worcester, MA, 1966) and a master’s degree in student personnel administration from Colgate University (Hamilton, NY, 1967), and is the recipient of two honorary degrees – a doctorate of science degree from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (20060) and a doctor of humane letters degree from the New England College of Optometry (2009).[1]

Moore won re-election in the 2012 election for Massachusetts State Senate Worcester and Norfolk District. Moore was unopposed in the September 6 Democratic primary and was unopposed in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[2][3]
