Richard Spanbauer (b. March 5, 1946) is a former Republican member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing the 53rd District from 2009 to 2013. He ran unsuccessfully as a candidate for the district in 2004 and 2006.

Spanbauer has worked as a manufacturer and realtor, and served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve.

He is a member of the Butte Des Morts Conservation Club, West Side Association, and Winnebago Lakes Council.[1]

Spanbauer's answers to the Wisconsin State Legislative Election 2008 Political Courage Test are available. The test informs voters how a candidate would vote on the issues if elected. When asked his top priorities he replied:[2]

  • "1. Communication between Madison and the municipalities thru myself.
  • 2. Confidence in Govt., working for the people!
  • 3. Support between myself and the people!
  • 4. There are many priorities, but in 1st term these 1st three are essential!"

Spanbauer was re-elected to Wisconsin State Assembly District 53. He was unopposed in the September 14, 2010, primary election and is unopposed in the general election on November 2, 2010.[3]

  • AB-38 Income tax exclusion created for the amount of capital gain that is invested in certain types of Wisconsin businesses; conditions and definition provisions
  • AB-104 Campaign finance reports: exception for registrants without an office or street address in this state deleted; report requirements and exceptions provided
  • AB-199 Protective occupation participants for WRS purposes extended to Parole Commission members, state employees at certain correctional institutions and mental health facilities, certain Corr.Dept employees who work with sexually violent persons, and clerical employees at probation, extended supervision, and parole offices
