Shipp is a former Democratic member of the Georgia House of Representatives, representing District 58 from 2007 to 2009. Shipp resigned on April 21, 2009 to maintain a job with the Fulton County district attorney's office. At the time of her resignation, Georgia law prohibited lawmakers from working for the state government.
