Cherry is a member of the Elks, Farm Bureau, Free and Ancient Masons, Greater Greenfield Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club, Masonic Lodge, Murat Shrine, Scottish Rite, and Willow Branch United Methodist Church.[1]

Cherry won re-election in the 2012 election for Indiana House of Representatives District 53. Cherry defeated Sam Weist in the May 8 Republican primary[2] and defeated Kim Brand (L) in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012. [3][4]

On November 4, 2008, Republican Robert Cherry won re-election to the Indiana House of Representatives District 53 receiving 22,749 votes, ahead of Democrat David Baxter (8,052 votes), and Independent John Jessup (3,511 votes).[8]
