Clarkin ran in the 2012 election for Rhode Island State Senate District 28. He was unopposed in the Republican primary on September 11. Incumbent Joshua Miller was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Clarkin was defeated by Miller in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[1]
