Prior to his appointment to the Alaska Regulatory Commission in 2008, Pickett had worked in the state's housing industry for over 30 years. He worked for the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation for 21 years in a variety of roles including Property Disposition Manager, Planner, and Program Manager. Additionally he has worked in consulting, real estate sales and marketing, management of a materials testing laboratory for the Alaska Department of Transportation, and surveying for the U.S. Forest Service in Southeast Alaska.

Alaska Regulatory Commissioner (2008-Present)
Pickett was appointed by former Gov. Sarah Palin to the Regulatory Commission of Alaska in January 2008. After election by his fellow commissioners, he served as Chairman of the Commission from July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2011. He was elected as chairman for a second time, starting in 2014.
Pickett has been married for more than 23 years to his wife Jane.
