Hofer ran in the 2012 election for South Dakota House of Representatives District 19. Hofer and District 19 Sen. J.E. Putnam were defeated by Kyle Schoenfish and District 25 incumbent Stace Nelson in the Republican primary on June 5. Alan Fenner ran unopposed in the Democratic primary. The general election took place on November 6, 2012. District 19 incumbents Frank Kloucek (D) and Edward Van Gerpen (R) are not running for re-election.[1][2]
